Rolex 24 at Daytona: Hour 7

We are now under our sixth full course yellow as Mark Kvamme, spins out, due to either brake lockup, or a mismatched downshift, not getting the car out of third gear.  The Prototype Challenge cars are "simple" in quotes.  They have paddle shift, with no super technologies.  6.2 liter GM V8's are the motors.  But, you have to go through certain procedures to restart the car.  It can be difficult and frustrating, to get the car sorted out.  Both Action Express cars are in pit lane.  Deltawing, was having radio issues.  One has to wonder if that is partly why the car crashed, in the hands of Andy Meyrick.

Mike Shank Racing pits, and they say the driveability, and so forth, of these cars, is getting better. Formula 1 driver, Sergio Perez, is at Daytona, supporting his brother, racing for TRG Aston Martin and team boss, Kevin Buckler, who is a Rolex 24 winner.  Ricardo and Antonio Perez, are in this event.  Sergio Perez, of course, drives Formula One, for Force India.  Antonio Perez, Sergio's dad, is a sports car racer.  We will be back to green, shortly.

A,J. Allmendinger hands the Ligier Honda over to Oswaldo Negri Jr.  We are getting ready to go back to green.  Tony Kanaan, Andy Priaulx, Johannes van Overbeek, and others, are getting their fastest laps in now.  The Prototypes sweep around the GT cars.  Cars are sliding in turn one.  There's obvious tire smoke.  They clear the west horseshoe, and now, run through turn six, and back up0 onto the banking.  The attrition at this point in time, even a decade ago, would have been pretty high.  Now, there are just three cars out of the race, currently, of the 54 starters.  51 cars are still circulating.  Tony Kanaan still leads this race, as the fireworks explode overhead.

Felipe Albuquerque is running behind another of the Prototypes.  Kuno Wittmer, is now, racing with the RLL BMW factory team in the BMW M6 GT.  Wittmer has passed the Prototype Challenge car, but he has to distance himself from the PC car, as we see a close moment, with the Corvette.  After we are done with this update, go to IMSA.com, and watch the streaming, overnight.  Then, join us, at 6AM Sunday for the finish of the race.  10PM-6AM Central Time, dig this race, on IMSA.com.

Now, we watch Tony Kanaan pulling a lead on one of the P2 cars.   This is Kanaan vs. Johannes van Overbeek.  We'll see you tomorrow, for the finish, folks.  Enjoy the race, on IMSA.com, and we'll see you at 6AM sharp, for the finish.  So long, and goodnight, for now.
