6 Hours of Shanghai: Hour 4

If the #2 Porsche of Brendon  Hartley finishes where they are, Porsche will win the 2017 FIA WEC driver's and manufacturer's championships.  Porsche have yet to see victory in LM GTE Pro, and the Pla/Mucke Ford GT team has not won in two seasons.  So, they are also very hungry.  Could Rebellion make a move back to LMP1?  They have not made a decision.  Next year, we start with the super season that goes from 2018 to Le Mans 2019, and for each subsequent year, Le Mans will end the season.

If he LMP1 order stays as is, the driver's championship will be clinched.  But the manufacturer's championship would have to wait for the finale in Bahrain.  So, we'll see.  Anything can happen in motor racing, as Nico Prost has now taken over the #13 car.  We have two hours and 45 minutes of this race left to go.  Olivier Pla is dirt tracking the Ford GT.  It's go time!  It is shown that Fred Makowiecki stayed at the wheel of the Porsche 911 RSR.  Rebellion is charging.  Porsche #1 in the lane, with the bloke on the team changing the tires with one hand.  Holy smokes!  Pretty incredible stuff!

Oliver Jarvis leads LMP2.  He has seven seconds in hand over Nico Prost.  Anthony Davidson steps out of Toyota #8 and Kazuki Nakajima will take his first stint in the car.  The mechanics are checking the brakes as well.  The wheel guns are incredible, spinning the nuts on and off the wheel studs with tremendous speed and force.  Porsche #2 in the lane.  What a gorgeous race car.  hey have run the same monocoque for four seasons.  Normally these cars leave under electric power, but the Porsche fires on the internal combustion 4 cylinder engine.

Porsche did a nose change on car #2.  They won't need the parts next year as the 919 goes to the museum.  Porsche will keep going in GT.  They will move on to Formula E as well.  Mike Conway swept into the lead, and then, Kamui Kobayashi made the pass.  Pit stop time again for Aston Martina dn car #98.  Pedro Lamy, out.  Matthias Lauda, in.  This is Lauda's second stint in the car.  The Gulf Racing #86 Porsche is still out there pounding around.  David Cheng runs wide, gets in the marbles, and slaps the #24 CEFC Manor car.  The stewards are investigating that.

Nico Mueller is back at the wheel of the #26 G-Drive machine.  Nico Mueller is racing David Heinemeieer Hanson who is a gentleman racer.  Oliver Jarvis leads LMP2 over Nico Prost.  Slight off, driver's right, for the Rebellion car!  Wow!  LMP2 cars have been faster than LMP1 cars through the speed traps this weekend.  305 kilometers per hour (191 miles an hour).  Battle between Ford and Porsche as Andy Priaulx moves by and locks the brakes.  He has the lead of this motor race in LM GTE Pro.  James Calado and company in the AF Corse Ferrari are not having the best race.

Herman Tilke shaped this track in the figure of the Shang symbol of the Chinese alphabet.  Pit stop time for Jota Sport.  Less than two hours and 20 minutes left to run.  David Cheng will receive a penalty for his collision with Jean Eric Vergne.  Fred Makowiecki has been demoted by Andy Priaulx and Stefan Mucke is hounding the Porsche driver as well.  Priaulx is checking out, racing into the sunset.  As predicted, tire marbles are making passing even more difficult on this track.  It is the snowball effect here in  China.  Respect track limits at the exit of the final corner.  No penalties, but many warnings.

Two more stops in LM GTE Pro.  The profiles of the Porsche and the Ford could not be more different.  Looking forward to BMW coming in with their new M8.  The new Aston Martin will be here and some revisions for Ford and Ferrari as well.  How many cars will everyone race at Le Mans?  Le Mans is an invitational event.  The Ford stickis his nose right under the Porsche.  Porsche goes a little sideways.  Some real argy bargy there, and Mucke was going to pirouette if he wasn't careful!  Yikes!  George Howard Chapel had manhy of his old Prodrive employees follow him to Ford Chip Ganassi Racing UK.  David Heinemeier Hanson brings the Rebellion #13 into the pit lane.

A great drive by Heinemeier Hanson.  Only two cars are out.  The #92 Porsche and the #54 Ferrari.  There's a ways to go in this race.  Still over two hours left to run.  David Heinemier Hanson continues to fend off the challenge from Nico Mueller.  We've seen some great drives from unexpected sources, who are lesser rated drivers, who are more competitive than some of us may have thought.  Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum, are the four ratings of drivers.
