Rolex 24 at Daytona: Introduction

As the sun rises over Daytona Beach, Florida, it is another new racing season with the annual tradition, the 60th anniversary renewal of the Rolex 24 at Daytona.  We have seen the qualifying race.  We know the starting grid of 61 cars, the biggest field for this motor race in almost a decade.  It is the kickoff of the 2022 racing season.  Twice around the clock.  The key factor at Daytona, is always time, as 24 hours on the clock will not quicken their pace, nor will they wait for anybody.  The other key factor this year, will be the cold.  Florida is thought of by many for being sunny and warm.  But not this January in Daytona Beach.  It is expected that we will see daytime highs in the 50s and overnight lows in the 30s.  Cold enough, usually, you could not even start one of these beautiful race cars that is competing, 61 in all.

Traffic, time, and the cold are what the brave men and women, drivers and pit crews for teams alike, will be up against, in another renewal of this fabulous race.  So much history here at Daytona, from the early races and land speed record attempts on the beach.  Names such as Ransom Olds, Alexander Winton, Henry Seagrave, Frank Lockhart, and Sir Malcolm Campbell.  You know the history.  You all know what a challenge this race will be.  So, right now, I will say, welcome, fans, to the 60th anniversary running of the Rolex 24 at Daytona!
