24 Hours of Le Mans: Introduction

Credit for part of this intro is to be given to the narrator of the 1986 World Sports Car Championship review on Duke Video, accessed via the Motor Trend app.  It is from "The Bell Epoch", the title of the review video, and some of the words of narrator, Paul Fowler.

The chateaus of the Loire Valley are symbols of the gorgeous countryside of western France.  There is history and tradition here in this sleepy hamlet, as the Loire River and it’s tributary, La Sarthe, cuts through the green, rolling fields, on their way to the Atlantic ocean.  It’s a place time has nearly forgotten.  In June each year, this quiet little spot in France is jolted to life with the sound of sports car engines, as the 24 Hours of Le Mans comes to town.  The advent of summer, is celebrated, with a motorcar race like no other on the face of this planet.  The knights of the FIA World Endurance Championship, come to joust on roads south of the city of Le Mans.  Business never ends as the CafĂ© du Tertre Rouge and Restaurant de 24 Heures illustrates.  This is the final event of the 2018-2019 "Super Season" for the FIA WEC, and the second consecutive running of the Le Mans 24 Hours within the calendar year.

Cloudy, overcast skies have greeted us here, at Le Mans, as anticipation mounts for the start.  A throng of humanity is now down on the starting grid, but soon, the cars, and the starting drivers, will be there, alone, with their thoughts about having one goal, winning this great motor race, perhaps for the first time, perhaps again.  Welcome, to the 87th renewal of the greatest endurance sports car race on earth... the 24 Hours of Le Mans, now less than an hour away from it's scheduled start.  See you in less than an hour, for wall to wall coverage of the greatest sports car race... Le Mans.
