Rolex 24: Hour 3

The NASCAR Next Gen car is being improved.  Check out some of the NASCAR events if you have not seen them.  We are following a GTD Pro battle here between Jordan Taylor in the #3 Chevrolet Corvette C8.R and the #14 Lexus RC F GT3 in the hands of Jack Hawksworth.  Taylor sharing with Jordan Taylor and Tommy Milner.  The Lexus has Jack Hawksworth, Ben Barnicoat, and Toyota factory Hypercar driver, Mike Conway from the FIA World Endurance Championship as the #38 car spins off, the Performance Tech Motorsports Ligier in the hands of a quartet including John DeAngelis, Christopher Allen, Connor Bloum, and Cameron Shields.

The NASCAR Next Gen car with the brakes and suspension and so on, will allow the car to race on a street course for the first time.  They are driving on a street circuit in Chicago this summer.  NASCAR is coming.  Oh no!  The #42 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 has smashed into the barrier outside turn six with Robert Megennis at the wheel of it.  They had a massive accident in Free Practice.  Megennis sharing with Kerong Li, Jaden Conwright, and Alessio Deledda.  Now, John De Angelis was the driver to spin the #38 LMP3 entry which was tagged by the #33 Sean Creech Motorsports car too.  The #11 TDS Racing car had some argy bargy as well.  Under yellow as the #60 MSR Acura pits.  That is off strategy to top off fuel.

Colin Braun stays at the wheel of it.  The #25 BMW M Hybrid V8 for BMW Team RLL remains in the garage, 42 laps down with electrical issues.  Car #42 of Robert Megennis is trundling back to the paddock to get that car servied.  In replay, he spears off the road bizarrely.  Did the brakes fail?  He could have had a failure of the antilock brakes.  You punch the brake pedal, and the computer is supposed to modulate lockup and it didn't on that automobile.  Jeepers creepers!  Alex Quinn leading LMP2 in the #52 PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports entry.  Ben Keating started the car of course.  Keating of course, a Texas car dealer.

He says the car feels good and the wind is favorable for pushing down the front straight.  It is a headwind.  Ben Keating is driving one car this year instead of two.  Alex Quinn raced and won all three races in U.S. Formula 2000 at Indianapolsi Motor Speedway.  Pit stop time for GTP's and more.  Renger van der Zande in the lane now into the #01.  Double stint tires and drivers.  Jack Aitken and Whelen Cadillac will do a nose change.  Penske and Ganassi are two of the best teams in the world and they are now competing against each other in IMSA.  There is respect but also a rivalry in this GTP field.

This will be interesting to watch.  You know that other teams, especially Action Express, will want to get in on the fight as well.  The battle continues.  Penske won the 1969 Rolex 24.  Mathieu Jaminet now at the controls of the #6 Porsche 963 as the sister car comes t the lane as well.  Penske and Ganassi will also race in World Endurance and at Le Mans.  A rear tail change on the #60 Acura.  Colin Braun has the controls of the #60 Acura currently.  The rear tail was changed and the reason why, there was a hole in it from debris.

A hole in the rear wing.  Play it safe.  That is what they wanted to do.  Spares are limited on these new GTP racers.  Braun is passing under Full Course Yellow with the class split for the prototypes.  Meyer Shank Racing are not risking anything to make sure parts do not fail.  The new specification means you still have to run strategy.  All the teams are doing this.  Green flag and Renger van der Zande leads for Cadillac and Chip Ganassi Racing with Louis Deletraz second in the #10 WTR/Andretti Acura.  Here comes Matthieu Jaminet in the #7 Porsche and the #31 Cadillac for Action Express of Jack Aitken.  This is a great battle.

Westbrook bashes his way up towards Braun!  Wow!  Unbelievable!  You know he wants it.  Cadillac vs. Acura.  Braun is going to sweep by Aitken.  Aitken hoding his own.  No dice.  Sheesh.  Matty Campbell wants by Richard Westbrook too.  Augusto Farfus is now in the #24 BMW M Hybrid for BMW Team RLL.  Farfus sharing with Colton Herta, Phillip Eng, and Marco Wittmann.  Corvette Racing are in the final year of the C8.R and they will have their Z06 GT3 debuting next year.  Jack Hawksworth giving Jordan Taylor fits.  Corvette, Lexus, Mercedes, Aston Martin.  Taylor is balked by an LMP3 car.

That is Anthony Mantella in the AWA #17 Duqueine D08 sharing with Wayne Boyd, Nico Varrone, and Thomas Merrill.  Renger van der Zande has two seconds in hand over everyone else as we continue the third hour.  There's a long, long way to go yet.  Believe you me.  We are going to be just 1/8th of the way through this motor race in a wee while.  The battle continues to rage between the GTP machines.  Four manufacturers and four different safety cars reflecting manufacturer involvement.  We have a Cadillac CT5V Blackwing for the Cadillac GTP.  The Blackwing motor and the Cadillac motor were developed in the same place.  The headlamps are very similar.

We will look more at the other cars as the race goes on.  GM President Mark Reuss is in the pit of Action Express.  Of course, they have their CT5 Blackwing sedan with 680 horsepower and a top speed of 213 miles an hour.  5.5 liter, non-flat plane crank, naturally aspirated V8 motor.  In house designed motor and the Cadillac design staff designed the car.  Sports car racing is now a global force.  We will see the new Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3 for a customer team built by Pratt & Miller in Michigan.  GTP and GT Daytona cars fighting each other.  Colin Braun being hounded by Louis Deletraz.

Renger van der Zande got stymied and Colin Braun is all over him like a rash.  Ferrari #62 has served a drive through penalty and Jarett Andretti too has had a penalty from third in LMP2 as Colin Braun is matting it to the floor and absolutely scything his way through GT Daytona traffic.  Too much risk early doors.  Take it easy, chaps.  Take it easy.  We have seen some incredible racing with the GTP cars thus far.  In LMP3, the #74 Riley Motorsports Ligier is a two-time defending champion team.  Gar Robinson sharing with Felipe Fraga, Josh Burdon, and Glenn van Berlo.

Felipe Fraga is a star racer.  He was close to getting a ride with Meyer Shank in the Acura.  Glenn van Berlo is the brother of Kay van Berlo.  Matt Bell is now in the #13 AWA entry leading in class in LMP3.  Robinson chasing Matt Bell, currently.  At Meyer Shank Racing they removed the decklid and they are working on the wing right now, part of the pit crew.  They have to go for it and prepare it as best as possible with homologation and Balance of Performance.  The part has to be scanned and checked.  Will the gaffer tape work?

Spares are an issue and so is the supply chain deal.  Frankie Montecalvo now leads in GT Daytona over Kenton Koch in the #32 Korthoff Racing Mercedes AMG GT3.  Brendon Iribe third in the #70 Inception Racing McLaren 720S GT3 and Daniel Morad in the #57 Winward Racing Mercedes AMG GT3.  Montecalvo sharing the #12 Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3 with Kyle Kirkwood, Aaron Telitz, and Parker Thompson, 2022 Porsche Carrera Cup champion as we welcome Dave Burns, James Hinchcliffe, and Brian Till to the broadcast booth.

The GTD battle rumbles on.  We welcome Dillon Welch and Hannah Newhouse to the pit lane and now, the scrap is between Aitken and Westbrook!  Dallara's Aldo Costa is overseeing the Cadillac and the BMW designs, and he has designed Formula 1 chassis before.  Costa was in Formula 1 for 30 years.  Costa is the Chief Technical Officer at Dallara.  Dallara designed two of the cars with the hybrid power as well.  Of course, the supply chain issues, we know that.  But the cars have been designed completely and are racing now.  The greatest drivers can be on the limit at all times in every detail.  Braking, traction, acceleration.  It is an honor to have Aldo Costa here.

Different manufacturers of the chassis of the GTP cars.  Porsche has a Multimatic chassis.  BMW and Cadillac with Dallara.  Acura with ORECA.  The #74 Riley Motorsports car has gone behind the wall.  They have had an engine failure and a hole in the block of the Nissan V8.  They are evaluating the situation and could be hopeful to get back out before long.  Hello to Indianapolis Motor Speedway President Doug Boles.  We are going to see them come to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in September.  It is going to be a fun one to see!

Track owners, sanctioning bodies, and so on, they are working together.  Good scrap in GTD Pro still between Corvette and Lexus.  Taylor vs. Hawksworth.
