Rolex 24: Hour 7

Iron Dames are here at Daytona, founded by Deborah Meyer promoting females in motor racing.Drivers, team managers, mechanics.  We are now seeing more and more female drivers.  Doriane Pin is racing her first American race along with Christina Nielsen and Michelle Gatting as well as Sara Bovy.  Drivers such as Danica Patrick and World Rally Champion Michelle Mouton inspired them.  Iron Lynx Racing put together the Iron Dames program.  Lyn St. James, Ana Beatriz, former drivers, are also in the initiative, promoting women in motor racing everywhere.  There is no reason female drivers cannot race cars.  It is just that there was not a lot of interest in the past.  But now, there is.

The Heart of Racing Aston Martin's both leading their classes.  Ross Gunn is leading GTD Pro while Marco Sorensen is leading GTD.  On fuel, Gunn and Milner are close together and the pace is hot.  Same for Sorensen and his rival Maximilian Goetz in the #32 Korthoff Racing Mercedes AMG GT3.  Team boss and manager Ian James also drives one car in the endurance races in IMSA.  Aston Martin are doing a fine job with their GT3 machinery.  Both Heart of Racing Aston Martin's in the pit lane for scheduled service.  Nearly all the cars are still on track.

Pit stop time for the #3 Corvette C8.R.  Pipo Derani is now back to second 15 seconds down on the #10 Acura.  It was an electrical issue on Porsche 963 #7 that cost the team 20 minutes.  Lexus and Mercedes now lead the GTD Pro and GTD classes.  Ben Barnicoat I think is now in the GTD Pro lead.  Many of these cars use a video screen like a navigation screen looking out the back of the car.  Trouble in paradise for the #25 BMW M Hybrid and Steven Thomas in the #11 TDS Racing Oreca LMP2 with damage to both the front and rear of the car coming into the Le Mans chicane.  The right rear corner is bent up and has a busted toe link.

Well, well, well.  How did Thomas obtain the damage.  Ooh!  He was drafting thr GTD car who lifted into the Le Mans chicane, had to take evasive action, and pancaked the wall.  Jeepers creepers!  Big damage to the right side of that motorcar with Steven Thomas staying in the car.  How on earth?  That is a Porsche I think.  No.  It is Sara Bovy in the #83 Iron Dames Lamborghini Huracan GT3.  Maybe Bovy hit Thomas from behind.  Good gravy.  If we have to see it once more, the producer will shoot me with a laser!  Egad!  I will be vaporized!  Just kidding.  I am still here.

Poor Rinus Veekay, as he just completed his stint.  He is worried.  His co-driver and team boss is OK.  But that said, Veekay wonders what happened.  They are trying to construct the picture of what happened.  Two corners on the car are broken.  They need more yellow flag time.  Prototype pit stops underway.  60 and 10 Acura's pit and 60 goes quicker on the stop.  LMP2 are also in it.  Pipo Derani leads and he tags Helio Castroneves in the Acura who spins on cold tires with no grip.  The Acura turned towards the Cadillac, and then he had to bail out.  Castroneves had sone flatspotted, square tires, maybe.

Limited tire sets.  You cannot waste tires.  Four tires for the #60.  Derani, Tandy, Lynn, Westbrook, van der Zande, Hartley, Castroneves, Herta, and Christensen.  Derani is up by 2.8 seconds over the rest of the GTP field.  The brakes on these cares are operated by a brake by wire system on the rear brakes with a large set of rotors and calipers on the front.  One of the BMW M Hybrids is a tad slow out of the International Horseshoe.  The #36 Andretti Autosport LMP3 divebombs the #18 Era Motorsports LMP2.

Merriman dropping hand over fist.  The lights are off and now on again.  Rasmus Lindh driving the #36 car.  The marshals will take a look at the incident.  Rasmus Lindh will have to cop a penalty for incident responsibility leading LMP3.  He did it accidentally.  There is a reason why antilock brakes exist.  The #21 Ferrari 296 GT3 is also slow, Simon Mann at the wheel of it.  More woe for the #25 BMW back to the garage as well.  #21 is the AF Corse Ferrari 296 GT3 with Simon Mann, Luis Perez Companc, Miguel Molina, and Francesco Castellaci.

Derani leads Nick Tandy now by 4.2 seconds.
