1,000 Miles of Sebring: Hour 3

A puncture for the #23 United Autosport Oreca.  Oh.  The car just stopped on track.  Holy cow! Full Course Yellow.  Who needs fuel?  We will have a Full Course Yellow according to Edoardo Freitas.  The LMP2 leader stopped at the side of the road.  Charles Milesi and Alpine now lead.  Stevens, Gelael etc.  Toyota #8 in the pit lane.  Ollie Rasmussen and Andrea Caldarelli scrapping for position in LMP2.  While yours truly was eating a sandwich for lunch, we saw the Toyota #7 pit and had service of some sort opening the passenger side door.  There was also trouble with a blown tire for the #98 Aston Martin Vantage in GTE Am for Paul Dalla Lana.

Rasmussen tosses it to the inside and Caldarelli tries hanging on but is not quite there.  Change the line mid-corner.  There's wiring all over the shop, the cording of the tires being ripped out of the suspension.  There's wiring looms and others.  The pit lane closed light was on when the Toyota came to the pit lane.  They knew they were in trouble and so they could take only 10 liters for emergency service and come back when the lane opens.  What will Race Control say?  We'll have to see.  You can close the pit lane just before Full Course Yellow.

Rasussen is still chasing down Caldarelli in LMP2.  Paul Dalla Lana has handed off the Aston Martin to Nikki Thiim, the #98.  There was contact with the #86 GR Racing Porsche 911 RSR-19 and he had to go a full lap around the circuit with a destroyed tire.  The right rear tire.  Ben Barker, their pro driver at the wheel of the #86 and he saw an opening that just wasn't there.  Again, it is the bumps on this circuit.  You just never know what on earth you are going to hit.  Fred Lubin vs. Robert Kubica in LMP2.  United Autosport vs. WRT.  The Toyota's are 1.7 seconds apart.

Earl Bamber has unlapped himself but is on the tail end.  Kubica doing all he can to catch Fred Lubin.  He is British but with a possible French sounding name.  Ferdinand Habsburg earlier spent a long while behind a couple of cars.  We are still half an hour before we get to the fourth hour and what will be the halfway mark of the race.  This race is still yet to get tough.  Believe me.  We've not seen anything yet.  Miugel Molina and Kevin Estter are right behind Matteo Cairoli and Michael Dinan scrapping for tenth in GTE.

Porsche #6 vs. Ferrari #50.  Miguel Molina vs. Kevin Estre.  I think this is his first stint in the Porsche 963.  Cadillac #2 loses a lap to the Toyota's.  Six and a half tire sets for Hypercar and LMP2 and eight and a half for GTE.  Make the tires last, just like we saw at the Rolex 24.  You cannot throw set after set of tires at the cars these days because the tires are expensive and they are built to be far more durable.  The fundamental aspect in difference between the Porsche V8 and the Ferrari V6 is that the hybrid in the Ferrari drives the front wheels while the Porsche has hybrid drive on the rear wheels.

This is the battle we are looking at for third place.  The Toyota I believe has front drive for their hybrid.  The Peugeot of course has equal sized tires compared to the other cars.  The ICE  reduces power when the hybrid kicks in and not additional horsepower boost on top of the power from the combustion engine.  Molina defending on the dirty side of the road and has clag all over the tires, squirming like crazy.  Estre sets a pass up through the end of the esses on Molina and boy oh boy, he makes it work!  Holy mackerel!

Estre goes to the outside, M9lina runs wide, Estre tucks it in and presses the bye bye button.  Estre tucked up Molina like a kipper there.  What does that mean?  He took him by surprise.  That is British slang.  A very disappointing tdeal for United Autosport and now. Doriane Pin leads the LMP2 class in eighth among the Hypercars ahead of Esteban Guerreri in the Vanwall.  Lamborghini will be in Hypercar next year with Prema and/or Iron Lynx.  Two cars.  One in the World Endurance Championship and one in the IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship.  Andre Negrao closing on Robert Kubica as Nico Varrone pits from the GTE Am lead in the Chevrolet Corvette C8.R.
