Matt Campbell is in the #911 Porsche, chasing down the #24 BMW M8 GTE. The battle is on between Mazda #77 and Acura #6. Oh dear. We have a carspun or stopped in the esees and now it is back on the road. That is one of the LMP2 cars, and we have a Full Course Yellow now, look. That is the #51 Inter Europol LMP2 Oreca, Rob Hodes at the wheel of it. He sat there, recyhcling things, and off he went without a stall. But we have a Full Course Yellow. We've been green for a long, long time, and everyone has been flat out. Time for a reset. The #10 Cadillac might just be able to get back on the lead lap. This only the second Full Course Yellow we have had today, with 31 cars on track. Time to hit the reset button for the time being.
Teams are focused on the championshoip or for the Michelin Endurance Cup. The #6 Acura is in the lane, and Dane Cameron will take the car over. The #31 Cadillac is also in. Felipe Nasr stays behind the wheel. A tire pressure adjustment for the #31. #10 will have a battery change and I believe they have. GTLM and GTD cars are in. #31 had to give up a place after the race out of pit lane with the #6 Acura. Now, John Edwards takes over the #24 BMW. In GT Daytona, we also have cars that are in for service. A wheel gun issue for the #24 BMW M8 GTE. Hmmm. That's a little strange. We are getting set for a restart.
Green flag. Nasr is right with Cameron. He's pushing into turn one. Cameron is pulling away. Job van Uitert will have a drive through penalty in the Starworks LMP2 car. Cameron, stretching out the lead on Felipe Nasr, being hounded by Tristan Nunez as the sun is blazing right now through the esses as we get towards night. In replay, a couple GTLM cars have gotten into a bit of a shemozzle. Porsche #911 has spun, and John Edwards was trying to put a move on Oliver Gavin, taking Matt Campbell for a spin. Dane Cameron remains in the lead over Felipe Nasr. Simon Pagenaud finished fourth in 2010 with David Brabham and Marino Franchitti.
In GT Daytona, Townsend Bell leads in the #12 Lexus but he has his hands full with Alessandro Balzan who has moved past Shinya Michimi. Townsend Bell used to drive for Scuderia Corsa years ago. The GTD battle is fascinating right now. We are quickly approaching halfway. This is the third of four endurance races of the year and typically the finale. It's the second event at Road Atlanta in six weeks. Antonio Garcia scored pole here yesterday, but he wants his first win at Petit Le Mans. Townsend Bell continues to lead GT Daytona for AIM Vasser Sullivan Lexus. Kyle Kirkwood has really shown well as a newbie, a rookie in sports car endurance racing.
Another car running well, Ian James in the #23 Heart of Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT3. It is sixth in class, and they recently had a podium. Ian James, Darren Turner, and Roman De Angelis are the drivers. Alex Riberas started the season in this car, but now, he is running an Aston Martin in Australia, with team boss Gabe Newell. The ebb and flow and dynamics on a multi car team changes from year to year, and this year, for Corvette Racing, it has to be the #3's year, compared to the #4, with the debut of the C8.R, the new, mid engine Corvette. They have had a lot of continuity between Oliver Gavin and Marcel Fassler. This is his 201st race for Corvette.
Matthieu Jaminet is moving in on Nicky Catsburg in the GTLM battle. Cooper MacNeil says he and his team mates have had a good race so far. Acura #6 is in the pit lane for scheduled service,. and no driver change. Dane Cameron stays in the car. Some close racing between Porsche and Corvette in GTLM, #912 and #3. They keep pushing. Mazda #77 is in the pit lane for service. BMW seem to be gaining on the #3 Corvette C8.R. Mazda #77 is off the road aso is the Acura! There's been a major collision. #77 was leaving the pits and he hit the wall. The #6 Acura likely didn't see him.
The #77 is going to the garage and there will be a nose replaced on the #6 Acura. This is significant damage. The top three in the championship are now the top three in the race. Helio Castroneves, Ricky Taylor, and Alexander Rossi. Jarvis hits the #63 Scuderia Corsa Ferrari. Alessandro Balzan actually hit the Mazda.
