Editorial: Sounds like hype to me

Time for some rumbling, some time to let off a little steam, and to support my boys at Action Express after a lot of confusion with a recently posted story.  A recently posted story about a "collective" effort with both Cadillac teams, Chip Ganassi Racing, and my mates at Action Express.  "Collective effort" my tailpipe.

OK.  OK.  I get it.  Cadillac and General Motors are putting everything into the new GTP effort for the 2023 IMSA WeatherTech Championship.  However, it seems a collaborative effort between two rival teams sounds like a counterintuitive idea.  My friends at Action Express, did work heavily with rival Cadillac outfit Chip Ganassi Racing, on car development with the internal combustion engine and the spec hybrid system.  It seems to me that Action Express, after our championship in 2021, and then, last year, when we were not in a place where we wanted to be, save for a couple of races, will want a bite of the cherry again.  By "cooperating" with a rival team such as the boys from Chip Ganassi Racing, even if it supposedly for the sake of Cadillac and the GM factory, well, it seems like hype.

We will want to bring the victories home for Cadillac just as much as "the other team" as it were.  But, as a fan, and especially one of Action Express, knowing the team and what we are capable of, I know in my heart of hearts we are the ones to represent Cadillac best.  Porsche, BMW, and Acura, no doubt, also want the glory.  It is going to be an interesting season to say the least.  Again, our team lineup is a threesome for the Rolex 24 with Pipo Derani, Alexander Sims, and Jack Aitken.  Our management staff on the team is also second to none.

For the other blokes, Ganassi Racing, it shall be Sebastien Bourdais, Renger van der Zande, and Scott Dixon in one car, and Earl Bamber, Alex Lynn, and a third driver who I am possibly unaware of at this moment, as IMSA only has the "planning entry list" compiled for the Rolex 24 with just two weeks before the practice and qualifying weekend.

However, I was right.  That story on the "cooperation" between the two Cadillac teams, was truly a loaded dice.  According to my friend and AXR team boss, Bob Johnson, our approach has not changed.  We are going out there and Expect to Win.  The only reason we did anything in "cooperation" with the other Cadillac team was to gain data and get the bugs out of the car.  We are going to race Ganassi and any other team, Porsche, Acura, BMW, as hard and as clean as possible with the goal of winning.  In racing, that is what it is all about.  Winning is everything.

  1. To clarify, Richard Westbrook is the other driver for the Chip Ganassi Cadillac GTP that they are entering at the Rolex 24 as well as in the full FIA World Endurance Championship.
