Michelin Grand Prix of Road Atlanta race winners

Apologies for not including this in the initial hourly race reports.  But, here are the winners from today's Michelin Grand Prix of Road Atlanta, the first six hour race for IMSA at this track since 1974.  Ricky Taylor and Helio Castroneves are your overall winners for Acura Team Penske.  In a two car LMP2 field it was PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports winning the class with their #52 Oreca 07 in the hands of a trio of drivers, Simon Trummer, first timer Scott Huffaker, and Patrick Kelly, on his birthday weekend.  In GT Le Mans, BMW survives the six hour battle and the #25 M8 GTE shared by Connor De Philippi and Bruno Spengler wins.  GT Daytona honors go the way of Acura as well, and Meyer Shank Racing with the #86 Acura NSX GT3 shared by Mario Farnbacher, Matt McMurry, and Shinya Michimi.

Overall/DPi: #7 Taylor/Castroneves     Acura ARX-05

             LMP2: #52 Trummer/Huffaker/Kelly     Oreca 07

GT Le Mans: #25 De Philippi/Spengler     BMW M8 GTE

             GT Daytona: #86 Farnbacher/McMurry/Michimi  Acura NSX GT3

Round two of the Michelin Endurance Cup is in the history books and we will be returning in a month or so for round three with the Motul Petit Le Mans, coming up actually on the third weekend in October.  The next event of the season for IMSA in this rearranged 2020 calendar will be the Acura Sports Car Challenge at Mid Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, which goes back to a sprint race format.  That is in three weeks time, and happens the weekend after the 24 Hours of Le Mans which is coming up, again, on a revised schedule, two weeks from today, on September 19th and 20th.

It has been a joy bringing you the action from Road Atlanta and round two of the Michelin Endurance Cup.  See you for Le Mans in two weeks and for other sports car races and news, coming between now and then.  Take care, everybody.
