24 Hours of Le Mans: Hour 20

Panis Racing and Duqueine Racing scrapping still in the LMP2 division.  Thank you, Alex Jakes, for your insights, and we will now hear again from Calvin Fish.  Wonderful.  Iron Dames are setting up for a driver change and we have Corvette Racing right in this as well.  This is fascinating competition, focusing on the overall lead.  Ferrari might just have the edge on pace compared to Toyota.  It is indeed game on.  Fabio Scherer continues to lead in LMP2.  Lorents Horr is fifth in LMP2 in the #48 IDEC Sport Oreca.  They are based at a new facility at Paul Ricard in the south of France.  Ferrari seems to be the team with the pace.  Use every trick in the book.  That is what Toyota will have to do.

Will Ferrari have to worry about a power cycle?  The next pit stops, we'll see.  It could be an intermittent issue and we'll see what happens.  Inter Europol Competition, they are going for it indeed.  A lot of front running favorites have not met their expectations or they got into trouble with the weather throwing a monkey into the wrench.  Oliver Jarvis and Fred Lubin still are in the race but United Autosports surely on the back foot.  Driver change at Iron Dames.  Rahel Frey out and into the car it will be either Sara Bovy or Michelle Gatting.

Can Corvette find  the answer to the Iron Dames' riddle?  In a couple of years, the Mission H24, the Toyota H2 Racing concept, and the Alpine Glow, these futuristic prototypes could be in a hydrogen powered class.  We want to try hydrogen powered combustion engines.  This could (and I emphasize could) help clean up the environment.  But we are just going to have to see if these cars work.  One of these cars is shaped like a teardrop.  Will we see these prototypes racing at La Sarthe in 2025, in just two years?  We'll have to wait and find out.

The pit crews are trying to catch power naps.  Eat up with nutrition and catch a nap if you can.  Garage 56 and Hendrick Motorsports have Jenson Button at the wheel of the Camaro ZL1.  They are eighth among the GTE Am cars.  Such an awesome car and an awesome concept.  Garage 56 carves corners and it is quick on the straightaways but corners well too.  The tires are 22 pounds lighter than typical NASCAR Cup Series tires.  Jenson Button will do the Pikes Peak Hillclimb later with a vehicle called the Radford.  Scott Dixon in the #3 Chip Ganassi Racing Cadillac heads for the pit lane.  This is the car he shares with Renger van der Zande and with Sebastien Bourdais.

Endurance teams do quick fill fuel and there used to be quick brake changes.  I am not sure if those are still existent.  A big swing in favor in LMP2 to Inter Europol Competition and Fabio Scherer.  Scherer's advantage has grown over the other LMP2 cars.  Four hours and 41 minutes of racing to go.  Brendon Hartley will take over the #8 Toyota from Sebastien Buemi.  Alessandro Pier Guidi pitting Ferrari #51 for fuel only and with the driver change I want to say Toyota are going to take tires.  Brendon Hartley does get into the car.  Fuel only at the Ferrari camp.  Will the car restart?  Down and away.  What a relief!

Pier Guidi on the attack through traffic.  The professional drivers should be in the cars at the end or towards the end of the motor race.  Ben Keating has taken the lead in GTE Am in an erstwhile sense.  Sara Bovy in the Iron Dames Porsche.  Don't pinch the car.  Release your hands and wash out wide if you have to.  Track limits have to do with safety and high speeds here at Le Mans.  It needs to be addressed by the safety personnel, the Race Director, and the drivers.  Karting and Terte Rouge are available.

Cadillac #2 has lost a lap to the #51 Ferrari.  The drivers and manufacturers get the headlines.  This is a team sport.  Ben Keating at the wheel of the #33 Chevrolet Corvette C8.R and he has a nervous twitch through the turn!  He s a car dealer.  Nico Varrone will be jumping into the Corvette.  Lena Gade spend the whole week at Le Mans.  Corvette Racing have raced the 24 Hours of Le Mans for 20 years.  This is a team effott, this sport.  Corvette #33 coming in and Daniel Serra wants to get the lead in GTE Am clasd.  Four an d a half hours left to go.  Michael Dinan is coming to grips with GT racing and the Corvette team continuing a pattern of certain things.  The #6 Porsche 963.

Daniel Serra has now put himself back on the lead lap.  Ferrari, Toyota, Cadillac in the Hyper Car class.  Porsche, Aston Martin, and Chevrolet in GTE .  Ben Keating says if you go offline it is hard to get back on track without gumming up your tires.  Michael Fassbender had a massive moment and almost lost it.  In fact, he did.  He slammed the wall with the right side of the Porsche.  Marshals repairing the tire wall and now, the Kessel Racing Ferrari is going to pass the Proton Competition Porsche.  Michael Fassbender, Richard Lietz, and Martin Rump.

We have not gone to a full safety car procedure yet.  What will Toyota be able to do about the Ferrari 499P?  The #93 Peugeot 9X8 is fifth in the overall with Paul di Resta.  Jan Magnussen is starting his 23rd 24 Hours of Le Mans.  One team at Inter Europol it has not worked out and on aother side it has.  Spare a thought for Michael Fassbender and company.  Game over for him, for Richard Lietz, for Martin Rump.  The Toyota catches traffic in a bad spot.  Michael Fassbender forlornly walking out the back of the garage.

The LMP2 cars have been drawn back a bit over the years but still hit 320 kilometers an hour.  It is almost a spec class with exclusively Oreca chassis' for the last number of years now.  Gunnar Jeannette came here as an 18-year-old driving cars for Dr. Don Panoz with Bill Auberlen and with David Donohue and now he is a prime mover in the AO Racing campaign.  Four hours and 14 minutes to go.  Nico Pino at the wheel of the #30 Duqueine LMP2 car.  Tires are fresh out of the warmer ovens  They were introduced after the troubles we saw with tires at Spa in cold conditions.  WRT chasing Inter Europol in LMP2.  The #36 Alpine of Matthieu Vaxiviere is in the lane as well.  Garage 56 had their best finish for Frederic Sausset in 38th place overall, for the unique prototype set up for amputee and disabled racing driver Freddie Sausset.

The Garage 56 NASCAR Cup Series car could finish as the highest Garage 56 car today in 34th place.  Work continues to repair the barrier as Inter Europol pit from the LMP2 class lead.  We continue dealing with a longer slow zone.  Another off course excursion for the #30 car and now, Brendon Hartley pits the #8 Toyota.  Pier Guidi knows the chase is on, and he is pushing like mad to try and build a gap.  Le Mans recently has become a sprint race but in 2023 it was bananas for the opening hours.  Pipo Derani locks up into the turn at the Porsche Curves.  Cadillac returns to Le Mans for the first time in 21 years.  Scott Dixon finishes his stint and Renger van der Zande climbs aboard.

Team manager of the #34 Inter Europol car to report to the Race Director immediately.  Ferrari are in the pit lane for service.  Could we see a possible Ferrari victory?  Sebastien Buemi is back at the wheel of the #8 Toyota I think.  Inter Europol team manager summoned to Race Control, their pit stop is under investigation.  Wow.  Alessandro Pier Guidi out of the #51 Ferrari.  Jack Aitken stops on the road in the #311 Whelen Cadillac.  I think Jack Aitken might have just goten into the car and he went wide through the corner.  The brake by wire system is so tricky on these cars.  Cold tires and no downshift I guess.
