If you think about it, Rick Hendrick actually already had cars in the first iteration of GTP back in the 1980s. He was owner/manager of the short-lived Corvette GTP team in 1985 and '86 with drivers such as David Hobbs, Sarel van der Merwe, and Doc Bundy.
