EDITORIAL: A Jam-Packed Weekend of GT Racing Coming Up

Ladies and gentlemen, a friendly reminder that we have a jam-packed weekend ahead of us.  This is going to be the third round of racing for most of the SRO America championships, at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.  All the usual classes will be in action.  GT America, the sprint format for multiple forms of GT cars (GT2, SRO3, GT4).  TC America touring cars will be there.  GT World Challenge America will have two marquis hour and a half events.  But speaking of marquis, we have two extra special treats ahead of us that will be the cherry on the sundae.  First, we have two appearances, scheduled in the afternoons on both Saturday and Sunday of the European based Curbstone Events GT1 Sports Club, for wealthy, successful, yet passionate, private owners of super and hypercars, to bring their marvelous machines to the track, to do some hot laps in front of the fans and show off these wonderful automobiles.

For obvious reasons, their identities are secret, so, each car and each driver will have a Racer X persona, the older brother of Speed Racer from the 1960s cartoon, the racing driver who was also a superhero.  So, that will be a treasure trove, an assorted box of chocolates dose of awesomeness we will all be able to experience and if there is tape recorded video of those exhibitions, you can bet they will be posted here.  Secondly, we have a first for the Pirelli GT4 America championship, an evening into nighttime, three-hour endurance race with the typical two driver format, but like three of the traditional one-hour races rolled into one, a similar format to what we see in the SRO GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup for the GT3 machines, except with equally cool GT4 automobiles.

That event is slated to cap off day one of racing at COTA on Saturday evening.  Truly excited to bring you the coverage in a race report format on that event, as well as everything else going on.  What you ought to do is tune in on SRO GTWorld on YouTube to see everything covered live, if you can, and of course, if you cannot find the time to watch live, well, the races and the exhibitions will be tape recorded for later access anytime you like.  I highly recommend tuning in and if you wish, here is a link, so you can find out all the tune in times, and to go back through all the GTWorld archives.

Do enjoy the races and the exhibition with the GT1 cars everybody.  We will be here to talk about it, and yes, the videos of the races and exhibitions, once they are all completed and, in the books, you can relive them through links I shall post on the blog on Saturday evening as well as Sunday evening.  I think I am really going to enjoy this, and so will you.  Excited for this great weekend of sports car and GT racing ahead.
