24 Hours of Le Mans: Hour 14

We are going to climb to warmer temperatures in the morning, and have humidity and heat, in France, bhut the race should remain dry.  Eleven hours remain. Tristan Gommendy is driving what is now the sole Graff Racing LMP2 car.  Graff-SO24, Vincent Capillaire of France, sharing with Jonathan Hirschi of Switzerland, and Tristan Gommendy of France.  Toyota #8 has just come into the pits, and Fernando Alonso stayed in the car.  He loves this, racing at night. He is really loving it.  He actually stepped out of the car, and Kazuki Nakajima takes over.  Kazuki Nakajima's dad, Satoru Nakajima was an experience racing driver, now retired, and spent time in Formula 1.

Neel Jani and Gustavo Menezes have the Rebellion's third and fourth.  Jean Eric Vergne leads LMP2 over Will Stevens, Andre Negrao, Paul Loup Chatin, Loic Duval, and more.  Pastor Maldonado in the #31 for DragonSpeed will inherit tenth place in LMP2.  Fernando Alonso is out of the car, after a two and a half hour stint.  Ten hours and 52 minutes remain in this 24 hour odyssey.  Gustavo Menezes is in the lane once more.  Fernando Alonso must be in love with sports car racing.  Who wouldn't be?  This is great stuff.  Neel Jani is in the lane with the #1 Rebellion.  Gustavo Menezes hands over the #3 sister car for Rebellion.  Either Mathias Beche or Thomas Laurent took it over.  Check that,  Menezes and Jani stay in each of the cars, running third and fourth.

This race does seem like it is turning out as predicted, as a race between Toyota and Rebellion.  215 laps completed.  Michael Christensen in the Pink Pig leads Gianmaria Bruni in the Rothman's liveried Porsche with Ford, Ferrari, and two more Fords following, along with the Corvette of Antonio Garcia.  Ferrari runs fourth, eighth, and 13th in class.  Car #77 has a good lead in LM GTE Am.  Julien Andlauer, Matt Campbell, and Christian Ried, are leading the Ben Keating, Jeroen Bleekemolen, Luca Stolz Ferrari.

It seems as though there is an electrical issue for Ricky Taylor, Come Ledogar, and David Heinemeier Hanson in the #34 Jackie Chan DC Racing Ligier.  It's a shame it's game over for those blokes.  The other side of the garage, with David Cheng from the U.S. but born in China, Nicolas Boulle from the U.,S.A., and Pierre Nicollet of France.  One Ginetta remains.  The #6 car, that suffered a litany of trouble, is out.  Renger van der Zande is still in the #10 DragonSpeed car.  He's still going for it.  Jenson Button is still in this race, 54th in the overall.  Now, is there trouble with Toyota #7?  Jose Maria Lopez is lapping slower than Kazuki Nakajima.  Lopez is losing two seconds a lap.

Maybe it is just traffic.  3:22 for Jose Maria Lopez.  Ooh!  Sebastien Bourdais has some argy bargy, as he has taken the car over from Dirk Mueller, taking the curbs, and maybe getting into a dust up with an LMP2 car.  Juan Pablo Montoya has set the fastest lap at 3:30.204 for United Autosport in the car he shares with Will Owen and Hugo de Sadeleer.  Weiron Tan has also spun the #37 Jackie Chan DC Racing, all Malaysian Oreca Gibson.  He's gone off into the kitty litter.  Ho Pin Tung makes a pit stop for the #38 car, the Chinese driver who was born in Holland.

Thirteen and a half hours into the race, and Toyota continues to lead.  DragonSpeed with Renger van der Zande, and Charlie Robertson, and also SMP Racing #11 with Jenson Button, are way down in LMP1.  Jean Eric Vergne still leads Will Stevens, Andre Negrao, Tristan Gommendy, Paul Lafargue, and others.  Porsche still leads Ford in LM GTE Pro.  Pippo Derani is now in the #52 Ferrari while Julain Andlauer, Jeroen Bleekemolen, Giancarlo Fisichella, Liam Griffin, and Jorg Bergmeister, are the top runners in LM GTE Am.

No change in track temperature, at 15 degrees Celsius.  More woes for Rebellion.  The #1 Rebellion R-One is delayed in it's garage with Neel Jani at the wheel of it.  Porsche's, one Ford, and a Ferrari on the lead lap in LM GTE Pro.  In GTE Am, it's Porsche and couple of the Ferrari's.  The leading Am car is the only one on the lead lap.  Julien Andlauer is ahead of Davide Rigon.  Now, Toyota #7 is still leading #8.  Lopez leads Nakajima.  Car #7 didn't take new tires on his previous stop.  So, he is going to struggle on old tires.  Lopez will give the car to Kamui Kobayashi.  Neel Jani pits the #1 Rebellion.

Toyota runs 1-2, as the gap is at 1:05.  Jose Maria Lopez will be in the lane for a driver change to Kamui Kobayashi, and also, tires and fuel.  You always do all three in endurance racing... fresh tires, fuel, and a driver change.  Fred Makowiecki turns a 3:50.276 in the #91 Porsche 911 RSR that is the Rothman's replica livery.  #7 in the lane, now.  Again, full service.  225 laps done and dusted.  Loic Duval has put in the fastest lap in LMP2 at 3:27.807 in the #28 TDS car.  Four seconds separates the two factory Toyota's.  Kamui Kobayashi leads.  Ten or so minutes left before we reach 10:00 P.M. Central Standard Time in the U.S., and 5:00 A.M. in France.

IDEC Sport still has a fuel pickup issue.  Paul Lafargue and Paul Loup Chatin have been having issues.  It's the 4.0 liter Aston Martin V8 and the 5.5 liter V8 Corvette, one turbo, one normally aspirated machine.  Jonny Adam allows Tommy Milner through.  This won't be like last year when it was Aston Martin vs. Corvette for the class win.  Phil Hanson and Julien Andlauer were born on the same day, but Phil in the morning, and Julien in the evening.  Paul Di Resta has just pitted.  Julian Andlauer has handed the #77 to Christian Ried.  Three cars on the lead lap in GTE Am, and four cars on the lead lap in GTE Pro.

More debris on the road in Indianapolis, and Pippo Derani gets dinged by the marshals for speeding in a slow zone!  Yikes!
