Race two for Pirelli GT4 America at Virginia International Raceway is coming up. Yesterday, tje 3.27 mile ribbon of asphalt proved a tough mistress for the Pirelli GT4 contenders. They are ready for race two, round six of the season. Cany anyone stop the RS1 Porsche Cayman team of Eric Filgueiras and Stevan McAleer? Ready to race. 60 minutes. Two drivers, three classes based on FIA driver rating. Driver changes only. No fuel. No new Pirelli tires. Porsche Cayman front row lockout. Stevan McAleer vs. Elliott Skeer. Kris Wilson and John Geesbreght next. Watch for Kenton Koch. Green flag. T the lead goes McAleer. Adelson holds onto the lead. Michai Stephens pushing already. Fanning out through NASCAR Bend and into The Snake. Through the climbing esses. Oh my God! Big accident in the esses! One of the Toyota Supra's got clipped and turned around. Full Course Yellow. Take it easy, lads.
Cold tires, and one of the Toyota Supra's was absolutely plowed into. Hard for Pirelli GT4 America to find a rhythm in these races with these huge accidents. There's a massive debris field. I wish we could get a replay. The safety crew on site attending to the drivers and planning how to clean up the debris field. The safety car driver must be spot on to guide the field. Maybe it is a good idea to go red flag with all the damage. The field is slowing to pick their way through the debris field. So many parts of modern race cars made out of carbon fiber.
Cole Ciraulo one of the drivers caught up. Cole Ciraulo, Matt Plumb, and Seth Thomas. Red flag. Good news is that the drivers are fine. In replay, we look at the initial start and Kenton Koch wanted by Elliott Skeer around the outside. Throguh the esses, cars everywhere. Matty Plumb clouts the catch fence and Seth Thomas in the Nolasport Porsche Cayman catches Plumb and absolutely cannons into Plumb's car. We need to see about getting into a rhythm with this championship. Keep it clean. Yellows breed yellows. The field will be compressed at the restart. Everyone needs to give their fellow racers more room on future restarts.
Premier Racing had to prepare their Porsche Cayman to start this GT4 event after having a sizable crunch in GT America with Adam Adelson at the wheel of it. The team had to thrash to get prep time to work on the car for the GT4 race. Work for the team would have gone on during the TC America event we just spoke about. Under red flag it is parc ferme conditions. Get the plan together and then the teams can repair the cars. Damage limitation important. The penalty for working on the car under red, the rulebook states it, but it is hard to say if there is a time penalty.
Game over for Capstone Racing. No further racing. Terminal damage for Capstone Motorsports. The tire barriers and the guardrail are all damaged. So this will be a longer repair. Stay with us. Let's see where we are going. In Pirelli GT4 America, they will race Watkins Glen, Road America, Sebring, and Indianapolis Motor Speedway. So, they will have more great tracks. We will also see Intercontinental GT Challenge and GTWC America teaming up for the Indianapolis 8 Hours at The Brickyard in October. Really, really looking forward to that one as it will be round three of IGTC after the 24 Hours of Spa.
Bryan Putt and Kenton Koch are excited to go back racing. Kenton Koch waits and says everything is OK. It will be a lengthy repair to the barriers. Drivers out of their cars. We are going to take a break and might just have to split this motor race in two parts. We have seen these red flags in GT4 America this season. I don't know what is going on. We used to run these races clean and green. We will take a break and be back with you when racing resumes. For now, hang loose, get a cold drink and a bite to eat. We'll be back.
