24 Hours of Spa: Hour 22

A slam dunk as one of the Audi's was in the lane, the #40, and so the #17 and the #88 are second and third.  Wittmann is coming to the lane in the next three laps.  Farfus and Haase will do likewise.  Have Rowe Racing been able to maintain this quicker pace?  The Tresor Attempto Audi has dropped down the mineshaft here and there are clouds gathering but I don't believe that means weather or lava lamps.  Ricardo Feller knows the Audi needs pace.  40 years of Audi Sport.  They might have reliability but it is hard to say.  Mercedes #777 will be in the lead but have to go as he has meet with other officials.  Wittmann in the nae as it is going to be wild.

Rower Racing, I think I just missed the boat on this one.  Marciello will be behind the BMW which I think is retaining it's advantage.  The Mercedes is just turning in.  They just missed out on the two minute interval.  Don't read timing and scoring.  BMW will have brand new tires while the Mercedes' tires will be four laps old.  Luca Stolz leads the race in the Al Manar Mercedes but they are out of sequence and had to put the pieces together and game over for Ferrari!  #51 wheeled into the garage!  What a darn shame, even though the car was pretty much a three-legged dog.

Laurin Heinrich is reeling in Wittmann has caught Stolz.  No obligation by Stolz to let him through.  No weaving or being cheeky for Stolz and we know Stolz will be inside to help with a bubke bath.  Wittmann could be losing time while Luca Stolz has not.  But he did not even defend, and he will do another lap then.  Kay van Berlo charging and trying to unlap himself.  We have seen McLaren and Sky Tempesta Racing rewally improve.  Of the 70 cars that started this race, 25 have officially retired.  Loris Hezemans and Antoine Doquin are battling for race position.

The #75 SunEber.  How are CSA Racngs still in the Bronze Cup ?  Luca Stolz brings the Al Manar Mercedes and then Tim Heinemann too brings in the #20 Porsche.  Marco Wittmann is free to go for it while the cars behind are bogged down by their rivals.  Lorin Heinrich is closing on Mattia Drudi up to the top of the hill.  Stabby throttle application is not ideal.  Gently open the throttle and then allow the car to move forwatd with minimal fore and aft pitch.  Two and a half hours to go now.  Nicki Thiim's tires might be nearly used up.  BMW continues to lead the race but the Mercedes is putting down some interesting lap times.

Two and a half hours to go.  Mercedes blasts up toward Blanchimont.  We are into the final three hours of the 24 Hours of Spa.  BMW looking for a 25th win in this legendary endurance race.  Anything can happen.  Pit lane has been really active.  Scherer Sport, Audi Sport PHX thinks that there is enough time for them to get a good result.  It isn't over until it's over.  Penalties are the bane of any 24 hour race.  We ride aboard the McLaren with Tom Gamble for Optimum Motorsport which has been strong all weekend in pre-qualifying, qualifying, and the race.  They are the only car with a fully carbon fiber chassis.

Pro-Am being led by the #75 SunEnergy1 Mercedes of Adam Oseika, Chaz Mostert, Martin Konrad, and Nicky Catsburg.  Kenny Habul had an accident on Thursday, had surgery for a broken vertebra, one of their drivers, Liam Talbot could not make it to the race and had to turn around and go home.  481 laps now in the bag and Wittmann and BMW still lead this motor race.  Nothing at the top of the shop has changed.  Raffaele Marciello right to the edge of the curbs in second place with the Mercedes.  It has not been quick until now.  They never look like they will win the race on pace.  So, just drive the thing and see what it does.  Thankfully, there have been no dramas for the #88 and the other car that has not been troubled is the #17 Audi.

Kelvin van der Linde is fending off the challenge of the Mercedes.  Alexey Nesov in 40th place.  He was an eSports winner as well.  The battle for fifth is hot and heavy as Mattia Drudi is being reeled in by Laurin Heinrich.  Nicolas Baert, the third place Gold Cup running Audi R8.  Klaus Bachler moves ahead of Nicolas Baert for 14th spot.  Good battle in the Pro Class, Laurin Heinrich and Mattia Drudi of course.  Drudi is a former Italian GT champion.  Drudi and Heinrich running together through Les Combes and into Bruxelles.

Do you risk it?  Do you totally throw caution to the wind?  The Rutronik Porsche has stuck to the plan and the team has been reaping the reward.  Heinrich wriggles his way through Blanchimont!  That was close!  Audi dives for the pit lane.  Mattia Drudi is in and so are Nicki Thiim and Dries Vanthoor as well as Raffaele Marciello I think.  Porsche #92 of Laurens Vanthoor finishing a stint.  They will need two more pit stops with the amount of time left on the board.  Two hours and five minutes.

Porsche #92 on the move and Jules Gounon stays at the wheel of the #88 Akkodis ASP Mercedes while the leading BMW hits the lane as well, look.  Jules Gounon wriggling his way by the #93 Sky Tempesta Racing McLaren.  The BMW will stay in the lead.  There's the battle pack, look, and it's a scrum for second spot.  Nikki Thiim is getting himself on the right track once again and Eddie Cheever III. is at the controls of the Sky Tempesta #93 McLaren.  Maxime Martin leads the motor race in the interim but he will pit in the next ten minutes.
